LAGOS — Nigeria’s expanding digital economy has created new opportunities for entrepreneurs building businesses around social media, online advertising and technology services.
Goodluck Ojoduma is among a growing number of Nigerian entrepreneurs whose business journey began with social media and has evolved into a technology-focused enterprise.
Ojoduma, a Computer Science graduate, is the founder of SEP PROMOTIONS, a digital marketing and IT support company that provides services to clients in Nigeria and other countries.
His journey into digital marketing began with Instagram, where he initially experimented with selling followers using manual follow-for-follow techniques to grow accounts.
The work was labour-intensive and required manually following thousands of users.
“We would sometimes manually follow thousands of people,” Ojoduma said. “It was stressful, but it taught me a lot about how social media worked.”
The experience eventually led him to explore digital advertising as a more sustainable business opportunity.
He began managing advertising campaigns for clients on Instagram, Facebook and other digital platforms. As his client base grew, he expanded from operating alone to building a team.
What started as an individual online operation subsequently developed into a structured business.
Today, SEP PROMOTIONS provides digital marketing and IT support services, including online advertising and assistance to clients experiencing problems with digital platforms and social-media accounts.
One area the company has developed expertise in is social-media account recovery.
With businesses increasingly relying on social-media platforms to communicate with customers and generate revenue, losing access to an account can disrupt their operations. Ojoduma subsequently developed services aimed at helping clients navigate such situations.
His clients have come from different sectors, including businesses and individuals whose activities depend significantly on their online presence.
From business to political communication
Ojoduma has also worked in political communication.
He was involved in the digital campaign of a Rivers State political candidate who subsequently won election to the House of Representatives. The campaign experience later led to his appointment as a social media aide.
For Ojoduma, the experience demonstrated that digital communication had expanded beyond commercial advertising.
“Digital platforms are no longer just places where people post pictures,” he said. “They have become important tools for businesses, public communication and reaching people.”
SEP PROMOTIONS currently operates from offices in Ikeja and Lagos Island, with plans to establish a presence in Abuja.
The company has also undergone changes in its workforce, having grown to 12 employees at one point before restructuring to its current team of six.
Looking beyond Nigeria
Ojoduma said his long-term ambition is to build SEP PROMOTIONS into an international digital services company capable of serving businesses across Africa and other global markets.
As part of his efforts to strengthen his expertise, he is pursuing a master’s degree in Digital Marketing at Liverpool John Moores University in the United Kingdom.
His career reflects a broader shift in Nigeria’s technology and digital economy, where entrepreneurs are building businesses around social media, digital advertising and technology support services.
For Ojoduma, however, the ambition extends beyond establishing another digital marketing company.
He aims to build an internationally competitive business from Nigeria while creating opportunities for young Nigerians to develop careers in the digital economy.
The journey that began with manually building social-media accounts has therefore evolved into an effort to create a broader digital services company with ambitions beyond Nigeria.
